@0xmf I’d be a little worried they might come away thinking using regexes for parsing is generally OK. It can work for simple tasks, but in my experience even those have edge cases and regex breaks down quickly. For something like JSON, it’s all pain.

@0xmf I’ve been following your posts on this. While I admire your persistence, regex isn’t the right approach. You should research how parsers work and write one of those if you want to be hard-core, or research parser generators like Bison to save time.

@invalidname I usually delete it. Initializer inheritance behavior sounded rational when I read about it, but it’s not what I imagine most developers will expect.

Current status: babysitting a brisket that’s been smoking for 15 hours. Needs to hit 190°F, now at 186°F.

@invalidname I’m not near the language reference iBook, but this behavior sounds familiar. Proper fix to include all initializers in templates? Now that the initial fervor is past, sounding more and more like Swift has promise, but its youth is glaring.

If Gruber can think it up, maybe it doesn’t pass the non-obvious test for patentability?

@redqueencoder @duerig Unpaid internships are bullshit, even if they don’t expect any prior experience.

@duerig Yes, exactly this. It’s further evidence why the best positions are found through networking instead of job ads, because we skip most of the HR nonsense.

@duerig The “requirements” usually aren’t that obviously stupid, but yeah, that’s the general idea.

Job listings are such a buzzkill. I’ve missed some things about employment, but I haven’t missed feeling emasculated by job wanted ads.

I’ll say this about Android development: it’s fantastic for consultants who charge by the hour.

@redqueencoder @oluseyi I thought gravity (moon, sun) played a significant role in the slingshot effect.

@cheesemaker Well, I’m looking for my next gig. I’ve built a couple of Android apps, though I won’t claim to be an expert. Stronger on iOS if I’m honest. What’s the project?

@tewha I don’t understand the electrical theory behind it. Maybe there’s something about the current getting back to the Mac/PC that would overload a circuit or something.

@tewha I have one with two ports that can charge an iPad. The catch: has an external power cord and, worse, those ports only provide enough amps when the hub is disconnected from my Mac (by design).
