"Had access" vs "gained access" [blog.twitter.com]: do you read it as Twitter being hacked or as identifying several (250k+) accounts matching the attack profile, indicating the attackers may have compromised those accounts already? Subtle turns of phrase...
The text of the emails from Twitter [rack.3.mshcdn.com] supports my questioning of whether Twitter was (even partially) compromised, or whether compromised accounts were potentially used in the attack. Or both. As usual, the "tech press" reporting on this has been sloppy.
There are few things more annoying than the loss of nuance and detail in "journalism" in the mad rush to be "first." It's like those morons in comment sections yelling "First post!"
Doesn't someone around here use the mocking label, "jernalism"? Fitting.
