[x] [unrelenting.technology] Ported Sweetroll, the engine that powers this website, from Scotty to servant. Oh, and it’s also built with stack on GHC 7.10 now.

[x] [unrelenting.technology] xhyve supports FreeBSD now! Converted my VirtualBox machine to a raw disk image using VBoxManage clonehd, started it in xhyve. (Had to Esc to the prompt, unload and disable-module vesa to prevent the “module vesa not found” error.) Works great! Reb…

The same app can be sold to multiple people, so it seems to have less value. Just like you'd pay less for the bus cf a taxi. (2/2)

On the "price of coffee vs price of app/song" debate: people place a higher value on something made just for them, like a coffee… (1/2)

[x] [unrelenting.technology] iTunes 2014: you can’t delete the U2 album they’ve added from your library. iTunes 2015: you can’t unfollow U2 on Connect. (Well, you can, but their posts don’t disappear from the timeline, even after refreshing it a hundred times.)

I really like this blind test of audio quality. I can mostly tell a 320 kbps MP3 from a 128 kbps MP3, but the difference between 320 kbps and lossless is pretty meaningless for most people. That self-proclaimed audiophiles still reject blind testing is pr…

@tommorris Broccoli is an excellent node build tool. Great performance (incremental builds) and API design (passing around filesystem trees)

[x] [unrelenting.technology] Apparently, Xft doesn’t have multiple font support built-in. (At least st does it manually, checking every character’s presence in the selected fonts.) It’s not a lot of code, but… really? Pretty much every app needs this.

@zei yep. 2013 Ultimate is 10GB, 2015 Community is 7GB. Multiple versions of tons of stuff I'll never use included in both… This is ridiculous.

[x] [unrelenting.technology] A fresh install of Visual Studio 2015 RC w/o any optional things is 7 GB. Seven. Gigabytes. Why. (also, “close VS to reduce the probability of required restart” is a lie, it required a restart anyway)

@flashblu I don't think I've checked what happens when you aren't signed in initially, but I don't think that should make any difference… Maybe there's a bug in passport…

@jws Smalltalk (which is what Sandi has been using for countless years befriends o before Ruby became a thing) really is completely different from procedural languages. Everything is messaging, NO special syntax for control flow.

I rediscovered James Clark’s excellent anti-XML Schema email yesterday. It’s a thing of beauty. There really is no justification for XML Schema. If you want to smash your head against the desk repeatedly and contemplate genocide, XML Schema is the format …
