There's a lot of real enthusiasm for app.net here - what's making you so keen on it, besides it being a new toy to play with?

@martinbryant There are a lot of really smart, inspired people here, for one! It's also, I think, an exciting time with a lot of potential. :)

@staticmade The new app smell is very nice. :) That will inevitably pass, but I'm hoping that by the time it does, a robust framework will have emerged that can support a diverse ecosystem.

@martinbryant @man @staticmade @duerig It just feels like an actual community at the moment. Everyone has similar reasons to be here and back this project.

@martinbryant the chance to reinvent how this shit works. I'm sick of the ad-funding hegemony of the social net. Let's try paying for things and see if it makes them better :)

@rene @man @staticmade @duerig But what do you hope it becomes? I'm still thinking through what the social dynamic of the service might be in a year's time.

@solobasssteve Yeah, the reboot is alluring for sure.

@martinbryant I want it to be a way for communities of interest to develop. Whether it is swapping recipes or high scores in a video game, I want the social graph to connect those who care. Promoted tweets and 3rd party restrictions work against that.

@martinbryant @man @staticmade @duerig It's hard to say at this point what I want it to become. At the moment I'm happy with a Twitter-like service that is "for us", without the danger of it changing direction like Twitter is.

@martinbryant Personally I hope it becomes what it says it's going to be now. Perhaps tweak a few things that Twitter does badly. But Twitter works. The main reason I'm here is fear that Twitter is selling me out.

@katcaverly Yes, but I could put up with that - they need to get paid. I don't mind that. But they've chosen to do it by selling out the core of what made Twitter what it is, and have prioritised brands and celebrities above me (and you, and him and her).
