@lukei4655 they were our most recent human ancestors. Their DNA survived and everyone has a copy of it. That fact causes problems for a historical Adam/Eve who were the only ones around and caused death/decay for rest of creation.
@lukei4655 theology must be informed by science, and hence, is concerned. The distinction between scientific Adam/Eve and historical people is false. Galileo was condemned for teaching heresy "contrary to Scripture and the Roman church".
@lukei4655 ok. Agree to disagree. Scientific "Adam" and "Eve" lived thousands of years apart. And though their lines survived, they weren't the only humans around at the time. This is as certain as heliocentrism.
@lukei4655 the bit about humans causing death and the bondage of decay of creation. According to science, death existed on earth before humans did. Rather than causing death, humans wouldn't be here without it.
@lukei4655 agreed that science can't test metaphysics. So, the Church should teach that humans caused death and suffering on earth in light of evolutionary theory, which holds that death preceded humans?
