Just found my old “Nintendo Power” pin in some stuff my parents sent! Not sure it’s ever even been off the backing. Image [photos.app.net]

@zev Even I have my limits though. :) Take infix Dylan with its “end method foo;” — please!

I have to say, though, GOO’s too-concise abbreviations are off-putting. I’d much prefer define-class to dc, define-method to do, and so on.

The “GOO” language looks like an interesting take on infix Dylan: http://googoogaga.github.io/

Logo spoiled me for BASIC with tools like that too: You could type EDIT "SQUARE and edit it in a full-screen “emacs-lite.”

Here’s ZMACS editing ZMACS on the CADR emulator! I got there by just typing (ed 'ed) at the REPL. photos.app.net/28828729/1

@holbrook Ah, if you get the CADR emulator running, you get a running OS on emulated hardware. The UI is a REPL.

@mdhughes I do have CCL running on my own Raspberry Pi — and my Macs — however!

@mdhughes There’s more to a Lisp machine than just running a Lisp in Terminal, check out Reti’s demo that I posted…

So who purchased Symbolics’ IP when Andrew Topping died? reddit.com/u/lispm just says “a friend of his” with a 0% chance of Open Source.

@acf I’m a pretty huge fan of the former.

Want to see Symbolics OpenGenera in action? Kalman Reti posted a great intro video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4-YnLpLgtk

A Symbolics 3650 workstation cost $65,900 in 1985. That’s $142,800 today, according to Wolfram Alpha.

My Skibo mug is getting pretty faded. I guess that’s to be expected since I bought it just shy of 20 years ago…

It didn't take much to get the MIT CADR emulator working on Mavericks: http://www.unlambda.com/cadr/

Putting in some LED bulbs, maybe I could sell the incandescents to "Global warming isn't real!" idiots opposed to efficiency.

I particularly like Dylan’s verbosity, e.g. define-method instead of defmethod, and its conventions like putting <> around class names.

Every time I read CLOS code, I’m reminded how much more readable it would be in prefix Dylan, even just by convention.
