@orian The first one is classic and timeless. I saw it not long ago and it was fantastic. You have to pardon the effects though. They used stop motion animation for ED-209 which looks kind of odd now mixed with live action. @dalton
@spacekatgal@orian I have no problem with redoing the sfx to make them look not goofy. Many of the SW additions are really nice (cloud city, inside speeders). I hate it when there are substantive changes for the worse (nooooo!, krayt dragon call, greedo).
@zero did you ever see the uncut version that got rated X? The commentary the director made about the boardroom scene & ED’s intro being more gruesome with that 17 seconds cut down was spot on: I was laughing so hard with the never-ending bullet barrage.
@orian@fields@spacekatgal I thought Dick said total body prosthesis? Lose the arm. ;) Weller’s suit looked much more mechanical & less like body armor. The way they cut & colored the original made his torso look too thin & thus more robotic.
@zero yeah, when first submitted to the Ratings board it got an X. So Verhoven cut a bit of the violence out of a few scenes. When released on DVD, they made to unrated director’s cut available. It actually makes the movie more darkly humorous.
@zero as you know he also did Starship troopers which was a parody on our warlike culture, although that fact was lost on most people. NPH’s scenes are the best example of the parody aspects in that movie.
