@spacekatgal The only scary part about that is that we were once in our 20s and did all the same things. Oh god, I've been at the same place since my 20s. They all probably remember those things! Time to find a new job

@spacekatgal It gets even better when you hit the early 40s.

@spacekatgal I'm quickly closing in on 40; it gets even better every year.

@spacekatgal At the same time, frustrating. Just these inexperienced balls of clay you have to mold into something good.

@joshpennington @spacekatgal Oh God. I know I made several graybeards slap their foreheads...“Kid, toss that stuff you learned in school out the window. You’re in the real world now”..And they were right.

@spacekatgal I work across a bunch of teams, from engineers (software and builds-physical-stuff) to sales, in a pretty granola-fit town. We get *all kinds* of interesting ideas about “work appropriate” attire and activity. Fun.

@spacekatgal Tough one. In part, that’s also about time and maturity, but teams can’t always wait for that to happen endogenously. Can you coach it?

@spacekatgal We just went through that with our 21 y/o sys admin who put the active shootout in Big Bear up on the big screen.

@spacekatgal I see. I've known, but no longer work with, a few of those type. They both overestimate their own skill and misunderstand the organization. Don't tend to last.

@spacekatgal In the dev group we’re a bunch of degenerates, the rest of the company not so much, and in an open office of 22 people it’s not a particularly good idea.

@spacekatgal I do believe in trying to professionally develop and coach, but there is a point where that ship has already sailed, and it sounds like this person has used up his chances.

@spacekatgal I know plenty of people in their 20s who are significantly more professional than colleagues in their 30s ... Seemed like a gross generalisation ...

@spacekatgal Your a feeling machine that thinks. Not saying what your saying is wrong. But peoples conclusions are often colored more by their emotions than they like to think. Even people following a scientific method backed by data can often fail.

@spacekatgal so because it's what you've experienced that means its the rule for all then? I am not disputing your experiences; I am just saying that your statement is a gross generalization that many can dispute and many can relate.
