@spacekatgal Dunno, I was pissed off my tits at Tall Trees nightclub in Newquay staring crosseyed at my first ever wet-tshirt competition. #shelteredyouth #itsoundsalotlikethatexperiencethough #springbreak?

@spacekatgal I like that. I think I would get into it at a club, but it might be a bit too aggro for my everyday listen (I have some skrillex though) My everyday is more Sasha, Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg like: http://bit.ly/X4jjJT or Beats Antique-ish

@spacekatgal Is that not EDM? That's the biggest news in the music industry right now. I think your secret is out! But I'm willing to accept that insiders are differently attuned.

@spacekatgal As in all things, eh? But if you've been into it for awhile I can understand this must be a strange thing. Once it hit the frats and sororities the whole game changed.

@spacekatgal Wish I'd found out about house when I was into dance clubs. By the time I got to a big city I was into other things.

@spacekatgal More like that would be like Coma by Sasha, http://j.mp/QED2ge …for something little off the wall I like the Avalanches. This whole album is comprised of samples: http://j.mp/QEE8IM (admittedly not for everyone) Grabbed track 5 from your link!

@spacekatgal Tiny percentage? It was an absolute phenomenon in the 90s and early 00s. I think people are just tired of the /idea/ of dance music. (I'll never get over electronic music of any variety!)

@spacekatgal Sure, but most people have very little musical literacy full-stop.

@spacekatgal Nearly all pop is just really crappy dance music these days - electronic music is infused in and among all genres now. Therefore, the utility of referring specifically to EDM is reduced.

@spacekatgal Big beat was pretty massive, as was Drum & Bass (at least in the AU and UK.) It's hard to go far without hearing Daft Punk or Groove Armada.

@spacekatgal I'm not saying that we have no need for EDM now, (I bloody /live/ EDM :P) - just that so much music basically *is* EDM.
                                                      cgiffard
@spacekatgal I wouldn't call it analogous to 'romantic elements' in a movie. When all the instrumentation in a (say, pop) track is electronic, and it has a driving artificial beat (+120BPM) - it's hard to argue against it being an EDM track also.

@spacekatgal (Just because it's crappy doesn't preclude it from being electronic music!)

@spacekatgal Also, what do you consider true EDM? (genuinely curious…)

@spacekatgal Lovely statement. I am with you on this, though dance music varies in style and hence tastes vary. I tend towards the wonderful mixes and music of Osunlade, Ron Trent, Francois K. and others on the “deep house” side of things.

                                                                  cgiffard

I feel it tends to be produced very accessibly. It's fun to dance to, easy to listen to. Doesn't have much discord (it's hardly autechre!)
