@benbrooks thought you might like to do a PSA: new Verizon customers like us have 30 days to opt-out from them selling your web history and device location to marketers. They should go to www.vzw.com/myprivacy to fix it.

@bryanjclark @benbrooks sure, but it would be the “right” thing to do, ok, well, never mind then…. Glad I’m not a #verizon customer, oh, wait!

@bryanjclark @benbrooks You can also change this with the My Verizon iPhone app. Just tap “Profile”, then “Manage Privacy Settings”. Though, oddly, it keeps on reverting the “Relevant Mobile Advertisments” setting back to “On”. Hmm.

@zumphry betcha Verizon considers that a feature and not a bug... // @benbrooks

@bryanjclark Do you know how new "new customers" is?
                      bryanjclark
@drewinglis it applies to all customers, but if you're new you've got 30 days before they can legally start selling your info.

@bryanjclark @benbrooks How do you opt out of Verizon tracking if you just have a no contract iPad month to month data plan?

@bryanjclark Great catch - something has to be done to simplify their legalese privacy policies!

@bryanjclark make sure you hit "Save Changes" for each section. I just did the bottom most one originally and was confused why it didn't work.
                                      bryanjclark
                                        @cdeutsch yeah it's a pretty evil design pattern :/

@bryanjclark thanks for the heads up...three "saves" later and i am opted out (for now, it would seem)

@bryanjclark thanks for posting. That's an awful policy.

@mattflaschen yeah it's pretty awful. I looked around and apparently it's quite a year-old policy; looks like it was forgotten about. (Which makes this whole thing that much more bizarre)

@kgutteridge @bryanjclark Thanks for the heads up on O2 - any other UK networks do anything similar on their 3G services?

@bryanjclark Thanks very much for the heads up.

@bryanjclark @benbrooks So if you're past the 30-day window, can you still opt out?
                                                    bryanjclark
@park yep! You can still opt out.

@bryanjclark Ok, good. I have at&t for my iPhone, but a month-to-month data plan on my Verizon iPad and absolutely HATE shit like this. Didn't someone also suggest mailing Verizon a photo of your middle finger? I think I'll do that, too.
                                                        bryanjclark
@park the middle finger thing was from @benbrooks :)
