This is pretty mysterious, @manton, but I very much like the sound of it. Defining a microblog post [www.manton.org] (via Inessential [inessential.com]

@djacobs Yeah, I never really found the public stream I wanted here. Not enough Twitter came over, and I gave up. I’ve done some private messaging in the meantime, but not a lot.

@djacobs Great! How are you? Is this a test of the ADN broadcasting system?

@manton I have considered that it’s probably better than iMessage, and more inclusive of my Android friends. I could be convinced. @justin

@justin My network uses FB for messaging, so I don’t use Hangouts, and then the stream just seems unnecessary as yet another place to read. And I have 13K followers and get NOTHING when I post.

@justin and you use the non-Hangouts parts?

Let Twitter have social media. That’s an ad business built around things that happen in public. I don’t even think it affects App․net anymore. There are so many more infrastructure problems — *tech* problems — to solve.

I switched to Twitter’s official Mac and iOS apps yesterday, and I have to say, I love them. The new Twitter has begun to make sense to me as an ad-supported medium, and their financials today bear that out. It’s the only actual “social media” company.

I am for sure still interested in this ecosystem, I just don’t need any more microblogging or messaging. But that’s the thing: I see those as features of more robust ecosystems, not places in themselves. There’s way more potential. bitcoin.app.net is big.
